It’s been 6 ½ years since that day, there were some people that didn’t think we’d make it. But here we are, 6 ½ years after Y2K and the world’s communication channels did not cease, commerce did not crumble, the transportation industry did not collapse, energy sources were not turned off, the food supply did not go to waste and the world did not come to a grinding halt. It seems so long ago and so supplanted by more recent events as to be irrelevant. Remember how crazy everyone was over Y2K?

Y2K scared millions into thinking the world's systems — from banking to electric — would collapse if supercomputers were not programmed to handle the numeric switch to a year ending in a double zero. There would also be no electricity, no water, no food, no clothing, no freedom. (Probably no air either.)Some folks stocked up on years and years supplies of winter clothing, shoes, medicine, toilet paper, ammunition, gold, silver, precious stones (and more "wood, hay and stubble" than you realize) and who knows what else. Some went absolutely bonkers and moved into their own little "bunker" in the woods to protect themselves from all those hoodlums, vandals, ghosts and goblins that were going to magically materialize on January 1, 2000 and riot in the street.
But it was all for naught, generated by computer software companies desperateto boost sales by making everyone buy new programs that were Year 2000 compliant, the fire was only fanned further by the media who warned us of the dangers and possible apocalypse, even lawyers and quick profit businesses as well as dried food manufacturers jumped on board and the panic bandwagon was rolling. and it worked, the Wall Street Journal estimated that $100 billion to $600 billion was spent in the U.S. on Y2K fixes. It was an April fools joke played out 4 months early triggered by IT professionals who told us that a shift in digits would destroy the world as we knew it. And you know what? They got us.
I don't really remember Y2K seeing as I was nine years old. I think its funny people freaked out though. People are so paranoid.
