When a charity group refuses money the message that I get from this is that the charity has either already found a cure or has enough money and doesn’t need anymore donations from anyone. It was announced today that the Breast Cancer Foundation of Canada has refused a donation of thousands of dollars from a group known as Exotic Dancers for Cancer (a group of exotic dancers that perform shows with all proceeds going to a cancer charity) because it deemed the funds to have come from “controversial” sources. In other words it was "ew, gross, icky, dirty money from dirty girls."
It’s hard for me to put into a blog how offensive and pathetic it is that this foundation has the audacity to try to dictate who can and who can't donate money to help researchers find a cure for this horrible disease that millions of women (yes, that includes strippers and other sex workers), suffer from. I find it so appalling that we live in times where an earnest donation to breast cancer research takes less precedence than the named donors. Who cares where the money comes from?! It only matters that people care enough, a group of concerned WOMEN care enough, to continue to hold benefits and contribute to the research and possible cure for this terrible disease.
I wonder what would happen if one of their researchers came out as a former exotic dancer, would she get fired? If she came up with a cure would it be discounted? The fact is that people would have been helped by this donation, I’m sure the cancer victims would have gladly accepted the money. Anyways, I guess it’s obvious that the Breast Foundation of Canada doesn’t need any money so I guess I’ll stop running in their marathons.
Ohh... that isn't fair.. Makes you think would they treat you diffrently if you came into the hospital needing cancer treatment and you were an exotic dancer etc??
All the women in my family who smoke die of breast cancer.
There's too much of this nonsense going around the world - there might be an issue about accepting a donation from a cigarette company (which is really trying to promote its business) but this is ridiculous.
