With Canadians smoking more pot than any other people in the industrialized world the Conservative government has decided to put a stop to it. Yesterday federal Health Minister Tony Clement announced that the federal government, who are concerned that there are nearly as many people who smoke marijuana as ones who smoke tobacco, are planning an ultra expensive anti-drug campaign with the aim of turning kids off of pot and onto alcohol (okay they didn’t say “turn onto alcohol” but you know that’s what’s going to happen), and decrying the fact that “Canada has not run a serious or significant anti-drug campaign for almost 20 years.”

Want to know why
Almost no one ever takes those anti-marijuana campaigns to heart, and a 2005 study proved it researchers found that anti-marijuana campaigns create as many negative thoughts and impressions about pot use as positive ones. And why should anyone take them to heart? Especially since many of these anti-drug marijuana ads don't even bother telling the truth. It's just total scare tactics, trading on stereotypes that anybody who ever smoked a single bowl knows is total bullshit (which is why they always use words like “can” or “could” rather than “has shown to” or “proven to”).
If the conservative government honestly (I know that’s a foreign word to them) wants to combat drug use then they should reopen all the Withdrawal Management Centres they closed down, not cut harm reduction services (which they’re threatening to do in 200
, and start providing health-card-paid treatment options.
